In an age of expanding literacy and technological advancement,
strong literacy skills are essential.
The prevalence of misinformation, particularly on social media,
highlights the urgent need for fostering information literacy. Studies show
that individuals, including students, struggle to discern misinformation, often relying on simplistic searches
and personal biases.
To address these challenges, MIRAGE proposes an inclusive online game. Players have the opportunity to engage in battles against misinformation and witness how their decisions impact their outcomes throughout the game. The game teaches users to differentiate between reliable and misleading information, assess source validity, and recognize potentially deceptive content. With scenarios and quizzes that demand critical thinking skills, players learn to analyze information, weigh evidence, and make informed decisions in a digital landscape filled with misinformation.
By promoting critical thinking and information literacy, the project aims
to shift cultural priorities away from propagating misinformation. It advocates for integrating information literacy into our cultural mindset and educational curriculum, empowering individuals to interpret and
critically evaluate information, thus
mitigating the harmful
consequences of misinformation.
